Barbara Stegmiller

Third Grade Teacher

Barbara Stegmiller has been teaching children of all ages for over 3 decades.  Born and raised in Chicago, Barbara now calls El Paso her home.  She grew up in a family of teachers, which inspired her to take on tutoring and mentoring roles at a very early age motivating her to become a lifelong educator.

Ms. Stegmiller attended El Paso Community College where she received her Associates in Early Childhood Education and then attended the University of Texas in El Paso where she majored in Multidisciplinary Studies with the concentration in EC-5th courses.  She then took a hiatus in her studies to focus on family with only a few hours shy of her Masters in Reading and Literacy.  She continues to further her educational experiences by attending conferences, lectures, and seminars in all areas of studies.  This allows her to stay up to date with up to date research, instruction, pedagogy, and professionalism.

For the past thirty years, Ms. Stegmiller has taught across the curriculum, utilizing center based, hands on, and project-based learning in grades Pre-k-5th grade.     She also has headed many efforts to expand the S.T.E.A.M. curriculum to engage students at different levels of competencies.  She has worked with U.T.E.P. in a pilot project Pick-N-Learn. This was an afterschool S.T.E.A.M. program that included daily assessments of student recall, social interaction, and investigation processes. She is an avid tutor in reading and mathematics.  She does this to enable children to be confident in themselves and their studies.   Finally, for the past 20 years Ms. Stegmiller has been an avid board member for Paso del Norte chapter of txaeyc.  This is a local board whose mission is to promote and advocate for high quality care, education, and learning for young children, families, and the early childhood profession.
