Margaret Birk

Curriculum Specialist

Meg Birk was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah where she started her education at The University of Utah. She completed her degree here in El Paso at UTEP in education with an emphasis on Early Childhood Education and Art.

Meg began her career as a Kindergarten teacher and loved working with children so much that she dedicated 28 years as a classroom teacher before moving to the district level where she helped design and implement several programs including a New Teacher Mentor Program and Reading Intervention Institutes designed for new and novice teachers. During this time, she helped train over 1,500 teachers for EPISD.

After 36 years with EPISD Meg retired and after a short period accepted a job with The University of Texas in Austin where she worked as a senior field trainer analyst with the Academic Foundation Initiatives at the Institute for Public School Initiatives (IPSI). Here, she worked directly with district and campus instructional teams to provide support and professional development. She is also on the executive board of the Paso del Norte Chapter of The Texas Association for the Education of Young Children and the recipient of Marquis Who’s Who Award for individuals who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their field of work.

When Meg is not working, she enjoys fitness training, gardening, skiing, and spending time with her 11 grandchildren!
